U.S. and China Hold High Level Talks
Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Monday, taking a step towards reviving American-Chinese relations in the wake of several recent incidents. He’s the first Secretary of State to visit China in more than 5 years. There was uncertainty about whether the two men would even meet, and it was only publicly announce 1 hour prior to the meeting. It lasted a half-hour and afterwards, Xi said: “The two sides made progress and reached agreement on some specific issues. This is very good,” according to several news sources. The two countries have been in a cooling off period due to issues such as China’s close ties with Moscow and the U.S. efforts to limit transfer of technology to Russia.
