Chinese Military Action Near Taiwan

China sent 42 warplanes near Taiwan as they kicked off three days of military drills.This comes days after Taiwan’s President met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.  Taiwan, which is currently under independent rule, has long been claimed by China as its territory. Chinese officials have called the meeting a “serious threat against Taiwanese independence”. Chinese media outlets have reported that the army, navy and rocket forces are involved in the military demonstration. Last August, Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, which was also followed by Chinese military exercises in the region. Officials in Japan have feared that any kind of conflict in the area could be dangerous for nearby Tokyo.
