Two Planes Nearly Collide at JFK
On Friday, two planes filled with passengers almost collided at JFK. According to CBS News New York, one plane was “crossing a runway and another that was preparing for takeoff.”
It was reported that in an audio recording from Air Traffic Control communications, a controller was heard yelling “Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance! Delta 1943, cancel takeoff clearance!” The controller was heard panicking when he saw another plane “operated by American Airlines, crossing in front” of another taking off. In a statement made by the Federal Aviation Administration, “Delta Air Lines’ departing Boeing 737 came to a safe stop on the John F. Kennedy International Airport runway as the other crossed in front around 8:45 p.m”, after the controller noticed the crossings and made contact with pilots. There were a total of 302 people on both aircrafts combined, including passengers and crew members.
