House Approves $1.7 Trillion Funding Bill
The House of Representatives has just passed a $1.7 trillion bill to fund the government for the rest of fiscal 2023 with a vote of 225 to 201. The bill was passed with barely enough time to avoid the partial shutdowns of federal agencies and is now heading to President Biden for his signature.
The bill is broken down into two major categories, non defense discretionary programs which are allotted a $772.5 billion budget, and defense funding which will receive $858 billion. This is a 5% increase in non defense spending and an 8% increase in national defense. This bill is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s last move in her speakership, and President Biden is eager to sign this bill into effect.
