Classified Files on JFK Assassination Released
The National Archives is releasing thousands files on the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy in 1963. These details are finally being released as a result of President Joe Biden’s executive order to disclose these and other confidential files that had previously been kept secret. JFK was shot in the head by gunman Lee Harvey Oswald while being driven in his motorcade in Dallas, Texas.
In 1992, Congress had declared that all files should be open by 2017, besides those the president thought should be kept closed. Then President Trump released some records and kept the others coming out on a rolling basis, the last of the records to be released by 2021. President Biden released a batch on December 15, 2021 and has just released the second batch of 12,879 files on December 15, 2022. 95% of the documents involved in the assassination of JFK have now been released.
