US Soccer Journalist Grant Wahl Dies at World Cup
American Soccer journalist Grant Wahl passed away at the age of 49, on December 10th in Qatar at the World Cup. In a statement made by his wife, Dr. Celine Gounder, she said Wahl “died of an aortic aneurysm that ruptured.”
According to CNN, Wahl’s body was “returned to the US on Monday for the autopsy.” Gounder said in her statement that in an autopsy performed by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office, they determined Wahl “died from the rupture of a slowly growing, undetected ascending aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium.” It was reported that days before his death, Wahl said he was “feeling unwell,” but his wife said that there was “no amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him.”
