Iran Executes Second Protestor

Iran has just executed its second detained protester on Monday. Twenty three year old Majidreza Rahnavard was publicly hanged less than a month after his arrest. The Iranian Mizan news agency showed pictures of Rahnavard’s body hanging from a crane, a popular public execution style for the Islamic Republic since 1979.

Iran’s protestors have been spotted in over 50 cities around the country since the middle of September. There have been at least 488 people killed and 18,200 detained since the protests started. Rahnavard was accused of fatally stabbing two members of the Basij security forces, a wing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. He was charged with the crime of “moharebeh” which means “waging war against God,” this charge carries the death penalty.
