Morocco Knocks Out Spain to Advance in World Cup

On Tuesday last week, Morocco knocked out Spain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup to advance further in the series. According to AP News, Morocco won 3-0 against Spain in a “penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw through 90 minutes of extra time.”

With this win, Morocco reportedly became “only the fourth African country to reach the quarterfinals at the biggest soccer tournament in the world.” Reuters reported that during the game, Spain “dominated possession but failed to create many clear chances against Morocco’s stubborn defense,” and Morocco had yet to score either. In the penalty shootout, Morocco pulled through with a 3-0 lead, advancing them into the quarterfinals where they will face either “Portugal or Switzerland who meet later on Tuesday.”
