Indonesia Bans Premarital Sex
Indonesian lawmakers have just unanimously passed a new law banning all sex that is outside of marriage. This law will criminalize the act, resulting in a potential year in prison if caught. Indonesia has also banned cohabitation before marriage, something many believe will drive away tourists and potential new residents.
Another change included in this set of laws is that insulting the president or expressing opposing views of national ideology will be identified as a punishable crime. Lawmaker Bambang Wuryanto led the commission for these new changes and said “The old code belongs to Dutch heritage … and is no longer relevant.”
