Elon Musk Hopes to Test his Brain Chips in Human Trials Next Year
On November 30th at an event, Elon Musk announced for the third time that he wants to test his brain chips in human trials in 2023. According to the Washington Post, Musk said his “company is nearing human trials for his company Neuralink, which is developing implants that could connect the human brain to computers.”
At this event, Musk said progress towards these trials was being made, as he said he has “filed most of the required paperwork with the Food and Drug Administration.” The device was shown in a video at the event being used on a monkey, where the animal used its “mind to control a computer cursor and type.” The device seemed to work, but many had concerns over the use of the animals for testing. Many are saying that the “company is harming animals through sloppy experiments that have resulted in infections, seizures, paralysis and internal bleeding,” but the Tesla CEO has not yet made a comment pertaining to that topic. Musk announced that he and Neuralink are aiming to begin human trials in “roughly six months,” and Musk is “confident that the Neuralink device is ready for humans.”
