Woman in Florida Sues Kraft for Cook Time

Earlier in the month, Amanda Ramirez from Florida, sued Kraft Heinz Co. over a misleading cook time on a product’s packaging. According to NBC News, Ramires is suing for “at least $5 million over what she claims is deceptive and fraudulent packaging.”

It was reported that Ramirez filed the lawsuit because “Kraft’s Velveeta Shells & Cheese Microwavable Shell Pasta takes longer than 31⁄2 minutes to prepare even though its packing states “ready in 31⁄2 minutes,” that constitutes fraud.” In the suit, it is stated that Ramirez’s claim could be falsified due to “directions showing that 3-and-a-half minutes is just the length of time to complete one of several steps. The label doesn’t state the Product takes ‘31⁄2 minutes to cook in the microwave,’ which would have been true.” Kraft made a statement that they would “strongly defend against the allegations in the complaint,” but the case has not yet been settled.
