Trump Sued by Writer for Defamation
Former President Donald Trump is being sued for the second time of defamation by a writer. The writer accuses Trump of lying when he denied raping her 27 years ago. Former Elle Magazine writer E. Jean Carroll also accuses Trump of battery in a Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan.
Carroll brought up this case as New York released the Adult Survivor’s Act, which gives sexual assault victims a one year period to sue their alleged abusors even if the event was periods of time ago and the statutes of limitations have expired. Both lawsuits are awaiting court decisions, whether or not the first allegation could be tried since it was in the period of Mr. Trump’s presidency. The cases will likely go to court in the early months of 2023.
