European Parliament Names Russia a State Sponsor of Terrorism

The European Parliament has just declared Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. This decision is based upon Russia’s military attacks on civilian targets such as schools, shelters, energy infrastructure, and hospitals; which is a violation of international law. This was a favored vote by European lawmakers.

Since the European Union does not have the framework to back up this decision, the verdict is simply symbolic and designed to encourage other countries to isolate Russia. Moscow is not happy about these sanctions being placed on Russia. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova took to Telegram to say “I propose designating the European Parliament as a sponsor of idiocy.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is pleased with this decision and urges other countries to take part in this action as well.
