Historic Snowstorm Falls in Buffalo

On Friday in parts of upstate New York, specifically Buffalo, a record breaking snowstorm fell. According to CNBC , Erie County in Buffalo saw “4 feet of snow in areas like Blasdell, 42.5 inches in Orchard Park, 37 inches in Hamburg and about 19.5 inches in southeast Buffalo.”

The record breaking snow storm reportedly brought in “lake-effect snow, which occurs when arctic air races across the relatively milder waters of the Great Lakes.” The lake-effect snow brought in around 2-3 inches of snow every hour, leaving Buffalo residents with “near zero visibility, nearly impossible travel and damage to infrastructure”. The National Weather Service warned the public early on Thursday of the historic amounts of snow falling overnight, telling them to make preparations. Temperatures reportedly dropped below 20 degrees, when they saw temperatures as high as the mid 60s earlier in the week.
