Mississippi River Reaches Record Low Water Levels

The Mississippi River has reached a record low water level, and saltwater is now starting to pour in. Typically, the Mississippi River is always full of water. Around a third of the rain water in the United States ends up in the Mississippi River. With little to no rainfall coming in, the river has no movement and is preventing many ships from getting through with supplies.

Another issue at bay is the lack of water in the river allows the Gulf of Mexico to come flooding in, exchanging the typical freshwater of the river for salty ocean water. This infiltration of salt water now creates more problems for those who relied on the freshwater of the Mississippi River. Contractors are working hard to prevent too much infiltration so the remaining water can be preserved.
