1 Dead and 3 Injured After Missouri Bridge Collapses

On Wednesday, a Missouri bridge that was under construction collapsed leaving one dead and three injured. According to NBC News, the bridge “collapsed at 148th Street and Shady Grove Road outside Kearney, just before 2 p.m.”

Contractors were “pouring concrete on its deck,” when the bridge then collapsed. The debris from the bridge reportedly trapped the four people, but only three of them were able to escape. The bridge had been closed since 2016 for maintenance and renovation, and in a statement released by the sheriff’s office, the bridge had “been inspected by an engineering contractor and had no safety concerns.” The three people who escaped the rubble from the collapse were brought to a nearby hospital where they were treated for minor injuries, but the fourth died at the scene. The identities have not been released to the public.
