UCLA Gynecologist Accused of Sexual Assault
Dr. James Heaps, a former UCLA gynecologist, has been convicted of five counts of sexually abusing female patients. The scandal began in 2019 when Heaps was arrested. He pleaded not guilty to 21 counts of sexual assault against 7 women between the years of 2009 and 2018. UCLA made a settlement payout of $700 million to hundreds of Heap’s former patients.
Last year, Heaps was indicted on multiple counts each of sexual battery by fraud, sexual exploitation of a patient and sexual penetration of an unconscious person by fraudulent representation. Heaps is scheduled to be sentenced on November 17.
