Nury Martinez Resigns Following Leak

Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez has just been asked to resign from her position after racist comments she made last year were leaked. The audio recording was from a private meeting held last year between three sitting council members and a local union leader, where Martinez was heard making these remarks. Martinez stepped down from her role but remains in the City Council.

In the recording you can hear Martinez talk about council member Mike Bonin, who has an adopted black son. Martinez described Bonin’s son as “ese changuito,” which translates to “that little monkey.” Martinez hopes that despite the leaking of this audio, citizens will look at the work done by her council for the colored communities.
