Cyberattack Leaves US Airport Websites Offline

Over a dozen United States airports were cyber attacked on Monday morning, and investigators are trying to figure out if the Russian government is behind the hackings. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby shared that “We just don’t really understand fully who’s behind this, what the motivation was, certainly at what level — if any — Kremlin officials were aware. We just don’t know…”

It has been confirmed that the attacks came from somewhere within Russia, who was behind them is still unknown. The hacking systems targeted do not handle air traffic control, internal airline communications and coordination or transportation security. The attacks created a “denial of service” domain on the popular websites, preventing flyers from checking the status of their flights.
