Hurricane Ian Leaves Devastation in Florida

Hurricane Ian rapidly intensified as it neared the West Coast of Florida, and made landfall around the Fort Myers area. Just early Wednesday morning, Ian had been sending out winds of up to 155 mph, just a few miles per hour shy of being labeled a Category 5 hurricane.

Storm surge in Fort Myers was set to be up to 18 feet, and Ian seemed to have hit that record moving through the coastal city at just 10 mph. Ian left over 2.5 million residents with no power along the Florida West Coast, and President Biden says this could be Florida’s deadliest hurricane. It is set to take months to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Ian as it still runs its course.
