Biden Awards Elton John with National Humanities Medal

On Friday, US President Joe Biden awarded Sir Elton John with a National Humanities medal. President Biden awarded the singer with the medal after his performance on the White House’s South Lawn.

According to CNN, the medal was given to John for “moving our souls with his powerful voice and one of the defining song books of all time. An enduring icon and advocate with absolute courage, who found purpose to challenge convention, shatter stigma and advance the simple truth – that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.” John thanked the president for the honor and “treasure” given to him, saying he was completely “flabbergasted” and moved. CNN reported that Biden thanked John after his performance, and was met with a standing ovation.
