Texas Doctor Arrested for Tampering with IV Bags

A Texas doctor has been arrested for his involvement in the tampering of IV bags, ultimately causing the death of one of his coworkers. Dr. Raynaldo Rivera Ortiz Jr., 59, was taken into custody on Wednesday by the Dallas Police Department. He however, is no stranger to the cell. Ortiz Jr. has been charged with many counts of domestic and animal abuse throughout his years.

Hospital cameras caught Ortiz Jr. slipping IV bags into a warmer in the hallway outside operating rooms at Baylor Scott & White Surgicare at North Dallas. Another anesthesiologist in the facility took one of the IV bags home to hydrate after an illness, but quickly died after being injected with a lethal dose of bupivacaine. Bupivacaine is a numbing agent used in surgery, intended to be injected into the spinal cord, deadly if injected into the veins. The remaining bags Ortiz Jr. had placed in the warmer all had visible holes in them and were filled with bupivacaine.
