King Charles III Addresses Parliament for the First Time

On Monday, King Charles III addressed both houses of Parliament for the first time as sovereign and Head of the UK State. According to the Washington Post, the ceremony and speech was “important in cementing the relationship between the king and the Parliament, where true power lies in Britain’s constitutional monarchy.”

In the address, King Charles III thanked members for their condolences, and promised to “faithfully follow his mother’s example of selfless duty.” The address marked Charles’ tour of the United Kingdom, named “Operation Spring Tide,” where he will fly and stop all over the UK with his new title following the Queen’s death.
