Russia Cuts Off Natural Gas Flow to Germany Again

On Wednesday, Russian government owned gas corporation Gazprom cut off natural gas flow to Germany through Nord Stream 1. According to the New York Times, Nord Stream 1 is a “critical pipeline that connects Russia to Germany,” and the shut down raised “fresh worries about European energy supplies.”

In a statement made by Gazprom, they explained that the cut off was for maintenance and is not permanent. The German government, as well as energy executives, reportedly believe that the shut down was politically motivated. The pipeline was previously shut down in July for 10 days of “maintenance,” so executives are watching this cut off closely.
