Extreme Heatwave Heads Towards the West
Through the long weekend, extreme heat waves headed towards, and through the western US. According to the Guardian, temperatures reached 115 degrees fahrenheit in southern California, and in Death Valley, they reached above 120 degrees fahrenheit.
The extreme wave of heat that blazed across the US in the west is predicted to be one of many heading that direction in the future. The Guardian reported that California officials warned residents that “the heat could strain the state’s energy resources as demand for air conditioners and other appliances surge.” Brush fires have also been an issue in California caused by the heat, and temperatures are only expected to continue to rise.
