More Firefighters Head to Try and Stop the Rum Creek Wildfire
The Rum Creek wildfires in Southwest Oregon have just expanded past 8,404 acres. The number of personnel fighting these fires is now approximately 740, which was increased after the Northwest 13 Incident Management Team took control of the situation Sunday morning.
The fire started with a lightning strike in mid-August, but has just recently doubled in size in the past few days due to strong winds. There are rumors of an upcoming heat wave that could make this catastrophic fire even worse. Rural communities in Josephine County have already had to evacuate, and nearby residents are awaiting the signal to flee. The blaze has only taken one life so far, firefighter Logan Taylor, who was struck by a tree in action.
