Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Disconnected From Power Grid for its Second Day
Zaporizhzhia, a nuclear plant run by Russian forces, has been disconnected from the power grid for a second day. According to Ukraine’s nuclear operator, this is the first time in history that the plant has been disconnected.
According to CNN, backup diesel generators were immediately turned on. On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made an address saying “The world must understand what a threat this is: If the diesel generators hadn’t turned on… the consequences of the radiation accident,” could have been major. Energoatom made a statement on Thursday, blaming fires at a “nearby thermal power plant” for causing the disconnections.
