Nichelle Nichols Dies at 89

Singer and actress Nichelle Nichols, passed away on Saturday at the age of 89. According to CNN, her son Kyle Johnson, shared a statement on Sunday pertaining to his mother’s death.

In Johnson’s statement, he wrote, “Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration from. Hers was a life well lived and as such a model for us all.” Nichols was best known for her role as Lt. Nyota Uhura in ‘Star Trek: The Original Series.’ It has been announced that her death was from natural causes.
