Bill Russell Dies at 88

On Sunday, former Boston Celtics play, and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell, passed away at the age of 88. According to ESPN, Russell’s family posted a statement saying that Russell “died peacefully with his wife, Jeannine, at his side,” and that they were extremely grateful for the outpour of love and support.

Russell’s cause of death was not announced in the statement made by his family, but it was reported that in June, he was unable to present the NBA Finals MVP trophy due to a “long term illness.” Arrangements for Russell’s memorial service have also been reported to be announced soon.
