JetBlue to Buy Spirit Airlines

Famous airline JetBlue is set to buy Spirit Airlines for $3.8 billion and become the fifth largest airline in the United States. This new deal was announced when Spirit and Frontier announced the end of their merger on Wednesday.

This announcement of JetBlue’s purchase came Thursday morning after months of bidding on Spirit. The merger with Frontier was first initiated in February, but Spirit did not have the shareholder support to complete the merger.

If this deal is approved, it will be the first major airline deal in the United States since 2016 when Alaska Airlines beat out JetBlue and bought Virgin America. JetBlue plans to redecorate the interior of Spirit planes with their signature blue and screens on the seatbacks, along with providing more leg room in the rows.
