Radio Signal Detected From Billions of Lightyears Away
Astronomers and scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered traces of a radio signal that is coming from billions of lightyears away. MIT astronomers have been working with other universities from the United States and Canada to identify the mysterious fast radio burst.
What makes this frequent radio burst so special is the fact that it is recurring and lasts for approximately 3 seconds each time. This is over 1000 times longer than the signal normally lasts. The signal was first detected in December of 2019, and scientists are still unsure of how it came about.
Astronomers believe the signal is coming from a neutron star that is highly concentrated. The star also appears to be brighter than radio emissions from our own galaxy.
