Georgia Abortion Law to Take Effect Immediately
Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Georgia’s abortion ban has been set to take effect immediately. According to ABC News, Georgia’s “heartbeat bill” is a ban on abortions after six weeks, and was approved by a federal appeals court on Wednesday.
It has been reported that the court “allowed the ban to take effect immediately”, instead of taking effect in late summer like planned. Governor Brian Kemp was reported by ABC News to have signed the “heartbeat bill” into law in 2019, but during that time, it was blocked and ruled as unconstitutional. Kemp celebrated the approval of the bill, while many others in the state protested.
