Suspect in Buffalo Shooting Charged with Federal Hate Crime

Payton Gendron, the 19 year old gunman responsible for the mass shooting in a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, is set to face arraignment. The shooting happened in May, and Gendron is finally being charged on 13 firearm offenses and 14 hate crime violations. Gendron shot and killed 10 black people in the Buffalo grocery store.

The suspect is currently in state custody and faces 10 counts of first degree murder and 10 counts of second degree murder. He faces either life in prison or the death sentence if convicted of these crimes. Prosecutors are required to inform the court if they are seeking the death sentence for Gendron before the trial begins.

Gendron, a known white supremacist, broadcast the attack on streaming service Twitch. He allegedly attacked this store because it is located in a predominantly black neighborhood.
