Texans Look to Save Energy as they Prepare an Extreme Heatwave
People all across Texas have begun searching for ways to save energy as they prepare for
extreme temperatures and possible heatwaves. Since Friday, temperatures in Texas have hit
record highs, and have only continued to climb.
According to the Guardian, temperatures have reached above 100 degrees Farenheit over the
weekend. On Saturday, cities such as Waco, hit record breaking temperatures. Waco reached
a scorching 108 degrees Fahrenheit, which according to the Guardian, crushed a 104 degree
record which was set in 1917. As dangerous heat sweeps across Texas, may have been
encouraged to save energy as much as they can. Electricity usage in Texas has increased due
to the high temperatures, and many have been encouraged to “turn up thermostats by a degree
or two and turn off unnecessary appliances to help reduce the heat-related demand”.
