Monkeypox Cases Surge in Florida, State Still Waits Upon More Vaccines
With the 2022 Monkeypox outbreak, cases have surged in Florida. According to the Florida Phoenix, data has shown that there are “35 cases of monkeypox that have been identified in eight counties, an increase from 27 cases reported just a day ago.”
With cases increasing daily, Florida, as well as the rest of the United States, have been waiting for more vaccines to be distributed. Weesam Khoury, deputy chief of staff for the Florida Department of Health, told the Florida Phoenix that “We’ve been told supply (for vaccines for monkeypox) is limited,” and that he “recommends asking the federal government why they are proceeding with this cumbersome protocol.” Florida is ranked 4th in number of Monkeypox cases nationwide.
