Supreme Court Rules Biden can End “Remain in Mexico” Policy
On Thursday, the Supreme Court gave Biden the go ahead to end the “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy. This policy came about during the presidency of Trump. According to CNN, Biden has been trying to get rid of this policy “since the beginning of his administration”.
“Remain in Mexico” is a policy that sends “certain non-Mexican citizens who entered the US back to Mexico — instead of detaining them or releasing them into the United States — while their immigration proceedings played out.” The ruling to end the policy was 5-4, saying the federal government has the authorization to end the program.
According to CNN, the case will go to lower courts for “additional proceedings around his latest attempt to end the program”. Although there is still a reported “hold” on ending the program, the ruling on Thursday held by the Supreme Court supports the fact that the hold will most likely be “lifted” soon.
