President Biden Considers Gas Tax Holiday

On Monday, President Joe Biden announced the consideration of a gas tax holiday, as July 4th comes closer. The White House believes that “halting” gas tax before the July 4th weekend will benefit citizens, as it is a holiday many are expected to travel on.

According to CNBC, Congressional action would be required. One White House official said the action would be difficult as, “Republicans don’t want gas prices to come down. They want Biden to suffer.”. Republicans want the high gas prices to remain, as they believe it is a reflection on Biden. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who will reportedly be meeting with oil refining executives, says “If we remove the gas tax, that takes away the funding that was just passed by Congress”. She believes this is a challenge Biden will face when trying to extinguish the gas tax, but it is a challenge that will not make it impossible.
