Matt Fitzpatrick Wins 2022 US Open for 1st Major Career Title

On June 19th, 2022, Matt Fitzpatrick won the US Open for his 1st major career title. According to NBCChicago, the 27 year old golfer from England was neck and neck with Will Zalatoris during their holes. Fitzpatrick is the 18th ranked golfer in the world, and Zalatoris is 14th.

On the 18th hole, Fitzpatrick faced a bunker shot, but “pulled himself out with an extremely clutch hit to remain at 6-under”. Zalatoris’ last shot drifted wide, sealing Fitzpatirck’s win. In 2013, Fitzpatrick won the U.S Amaetur at the same country club in Massachusetts that this year’s US Open was held at. In a post tournament interview, Fitzpatrick said the clutch shot was “one of the best shots I’ve hit of all time”.
