Elon Musk Says he Wants “Free Speech” at Twitter Meeting
Elon Musk, the new largest shareholder of social media company Twitter, wants to create more of a free speech platform on the social media app. Musk purchased 9.2% of the company recently, and has decided he wants to buy the whole company for a $44 billion deal.
Musk has repeatedly said his reason for purchasing Twitter is to allow more uncensored speech, however this does not go over well with many users. Users fear that this decision is going to allow for more hate speech to be posted and kept up, especially that targeting black people.
When buying Twitter, Musk released a tweet saying “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.” His tweet has brought up some concerns but it is unclear what will happen when Musk’s version of free speech is in place on Twitter.
