Daughter of Illinois Congressman Sean Casten Dies at Age 17

On Monday morning Gwen, the 17 year old daughter of Illinois Congressman Sean Casten, passed away. According to NBC News, Casten’s office made a short statement on Twitter, sharing the heartbreaking news.

The statement says, “This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen (17), passed away. The Casten family requests privacy, and we will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time.” Many have reached out, sharing their love and support for the family during this time, including Gwen’s principal, Courtney DeMent, at North High School in Downers Grove. NBC reported that in a statement she said, “Our school community is grieving from the loss of 2022 graduate Gwen Casten, a shining star. Many people are hurting right now and we send our love to the Casten family.” No information regarding the cause of her death has been released.
