6 Year Old Boys Body Found in Massachusetts River Days After his Mother Died Trying to Save him

The body of 6 year old Mas DeChhat was found in the Merrimack River by a local kayaker on Sunday. Mas drowned in the river Thursday night, and his mother and sister went into the water after him in attempts to save him, but got swept away by the current. Mas’ mother unfortunately passed away before she was rescued from the water, but his sister survived.

Darin Kelsey, the kayaker who found Mas’ body, was on the water with a volunteer search team with first responders. The body was found half a mile from Deer Island where the DeChhat family was fishing. A memorial has been made for Mas and his mother Boua on Deer Island to honor their lives.
