Prosecutors Recommend that R. Kelly Receive More than 25 Years for his Crimes

According to Vanity Fair, Federal Prosecutors have announced their suggestion for R. Kelly to face more than 25 years in prison. The musician is facing 9 counts against him, including “one count of racketeering and eight of violating the Mann Act which prohibits the transport of “any woman or girl” across state lines”. Kelly also has committed crimes outside of New York, where he “allegedly engaged in prostitution with an underage girl in 2001” in Minnesota, and faced “child pornography and obstruction of justice charges.” in Illinois. He was found guilty in

September of last year, and is sentenced to face his time June 29th. Vanity Fair reported that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York wrote to the judge saying that the singer should face more than 25 years, and that Kelly was “relying on his fame, money and popularity as an R&B recording star…to both carry and conceal his crimes”. He carried on saying that Kelly must be held accountable for his crimes, and that he had been trying to avoid them for almost 30 years. As a response, R Kelly’s lawyer says she believes Kelly should be facing less than 14 years.
