Escaped Inmate Gonzalo Lopez Dies in Shootout

An inmate in Texas convicted of murder, Gonzalo Lopez, escaped from a prisoner bus last month and died in a shootout with officers on June 2nd. According to CNN, Gonzalo Lopez was named the “prime suspect in the killing of four children and an adult in a home in Leon County,” on Thursday right before the shootout occurred.

CNN reported that Lopez fled the scene in a farm truck stolen from the family of 5 that he killed, when he later crashed it and “engaged in a firefight with officers.” Lopez used an AR-15 and pistol, believed to be most likely stolen from the family. Lopez escaped the prison bus on May 12, where he was on route to serving two life sentences for previous murders. Lopez died in the shootout with police, but no officers died.
