Bill Passed by NY Raising Minimum Age to Purchase Semiautomatic Rifles
New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a gun reform bill on June 2 banning the sale and possession of semiautomatic rifles to anyone under the age of 21. She also included that anyone found making mass threats would be criminalized.
This law comes after the May 14 shooting in Buffalo, New York and the May 24 school shooting in Texas. Hochul hopes this law will help the people of New York and all over the nation to finally create an end to all the gun violence.
This new law adds on to previous gun laws in New York, and aside from banning the sales of semiautomatic rifles to those under 21, it also prevents the sale of body armor and requires local law enforcement to share their gun crime information with state officers.
