Supreme Court Clerks May Have to Hand Over Their Phone Records
Following the leaked opinion draft of Roe v. Wade, US Supreme Court clerks may have to turn
their phone records in. The investigation over who exactly leaked the draft opinion is still
ongoing, and it is believed by officials that retaining phone records could help solve the
investigation.
Many clerks have decided to retain legal counsel for the intrusion of privacy. CNN reported an
anonymous lawyer saying, “It would be hypocritical for the supreme court to prevent its own
employees from taking advantage of that fundamental legal protection.”. Many clerks have
lawyers looking into preventing their phone records from being handed over, also saying that
other government officials, such as 9 supreme court justices, had access to the draft that was
leaked as well.
