Russia Pushes Invasion Towards Severondonetsk in Eastern Ukraine

Russian forces are continuing to push towards eastern Ukraine, which is home to cities such as
Severodonetsk and Lysychansk. Since early April, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, had
warned Ukrainians about Russia’s progressing invasion moving toward the eastern regions
known as Donbas. Two major regions inside Donbas are Donetsk and Luhansk, regions that
predominantly speak Russian, but are not in favor of Russian control.

According to BBC, after Russia failed to capture Kyiv, Putin “switched attention to “achieving the
main goal – the liberation of Donbas”‘. Russian forces have been trying to take over
Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, in hopes that a triumph will lead to an easier battle in Luhansk.
BBC has reported that progress for Russia “has been slow and Ukrainian are running low on
high-precision weapons”. As the war keeps pushing towards eastern Ukraine, more and more
innocent lives in Ukraine continue to be in danger.
