Texas Elementary School Shooting Leaves 21 Dead
As of now, 19 kids, and 2 teachers have been killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Wednesday, May 25th. 18 year old Salvador Ramos, from Uvalde, has been identified by officials as the shooter. Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erick Estrada, told CNN that on Wednesday morning, Ramos shot his 66 year old grandmother, where he then “crashed near a ditch nearby the school. That’s where he exited his vehicle with what I believe was a rifle…”. Ramos began opening fire in the school at around 11:30am.
Ramos can be seen in video footage from sources such as CNN, entering the school with a rifle, and wearing body armor along with a backpack. Lt. Christopher Olivarez told CNN that “Ramos entered the classroom, locked the door and started shooting.”. Olivarez also spoke and said a tactical team broke open windows, and killed the shooter after facing gunfire as well. Outlets such as USA Today have reported that Ramos posted on social media a couple days before, uploading photos of two assault weapons he had purchased after his 18th birthday while also suggesting “the kids should watch out”. Victims range from the ages 7-10, and the two teachers killed, Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia, were 44 and 46. CNN reports this mass shooting as one of the deadliest K-12 shootings in the U.S, being the 30th K-12 school shooting in 2022.
