Fauci Says He Does Not Want the US to Resort to a Lockdown
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert who has served under six White House administration’s, said in an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America on Thursday, he does not think the US will need to revert to coronavirus lockdown restrictions if people “double down” on the basic guidelines of hand washing, wearing a mask and social distancing.
Fauci also stated “the cavalry is coming,” making reference to successful vaccine trials which he believes will “have a major positive impact” once distribution begins in December and the early part of next year. He also expressed his hope that by next spring every citizen will have access to vaccinations.
Dr. Fauci strongly advised, in the meantime, all Americans can take fundamental steps to curb the spread of the deadly pandemic virus. The guidelines he suggested should be “universal” and systematic by wearing a mask, avoiding gatherings and large crowds, social distancing and proper hand washing. Although it seems simple enough to follow some basic suggestions to curb the spread, Fauci said it can and does make a considerable difference.
Dr. Fauci reinforced President-elect Joe Biden’s message which outlines a 7-point definitive plan for fighting the lethal virus as a number one priority of his new administration. Earlier this week Biden announced his new coronavirus task force advisory team and urged the public to wear a mask. Leading health experts and researchers have expressed their hope that Biden’s swift action will help the US correct the deadly course of the pandemic outbreak.
