Google in Talks with Samsung

During this global pandemic, Samsung Electronics Co. has seen a dramatic fall in demand for their mobile devices. In fact, the smartphone industry is seeing one of its largest annual drops in history with an expected 12% decrease this year. Samsung Electronics Co. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google are planning a deal that would allow Google to take over a greater number of search tasks on Samsung’s devices. The agreement would benefit Google by potentially growing traffic to its digital assistant and Play Store from Samsung’s daily users. Neither party has revealed any financial details to date regarding the agreement, but Samsung would potentially receive significant money in the transaction. The negotiation is taking place at the same time Google and other major technology companies are being investigated for possible antitrust violations.
