Kanye West Announces Run for President
On July 4, rapper/singer-songwriter Kanye West, tweeted he is “running for president of the United States.” His Twitter post came days after he teasingly announced an upcoming new album entitled “God’s Country.” His intention, whether serious or not, comes a bit too late to get on the Independent ballot in many states. West would also need to register and present his campaign platform to the Federal Election Commission. In a 2018 interview, West said if he were to run, his campaign platform would include a combination of Trump and Bernie Sanders ideals. West has both lost and gained fans in recent years over his support of Trump. However, the Black Lives Matter movement, along with ongoing protests against racial injustice and police brutality, has caused West to deviate from his public support of the president.
